Electric cars to get exclusive license plates in 2016
New housing complexes will be required to have recharging stations

Beginning next year, electric vehicles will be able to use exclusive license plates, and all new housing sites will be required to provide special parking zones for them.

According to the decision made at a presidential cabinet meeting earlier this week… electric vehicles that use the exclusive plates will be exempt from paying congestion fees and will receive discounts when parking in public parking lots. In addition, it will become mandatory for all new multi-unit housing complexes to provide electric vehicle recharging zones.

Currently there are less than 400 recharging stations available for electric cars at housing complexes across the nation but the government plans to add at least a thousand more by 2020.


<전기차 전용번호판 도입…전용주차구역 '의무'>

내년부터 전기차 전용 번호판이 도입되고 새로 짓는 공동주택의 경우 전기차 전용 주차구역이 의무적으로 설치됩니다.

정부는 박근혜 대통령 주재로 국무회의를 열고 이 같은 내용을 골자로 한 환경친화적 자동차 보급 기본계획을 확정했습니다.

주요 내용을 보면 전용 번호판을 부착한 전기차의 경우 각 지방자치단체에서 부여하는 혼잡통행료 면제나 공영주차장 요금 할인 등이 제공됩니다.

또 새로 짓는 공동주택에 전기차 충전구역 설치를 의무화하고 현재 400개에 불과한 충전시설을 2020년까지 중점 보급도시 중심으로 늘리기로 했습니다.
