Sharp rise in Chinese-owned land
More than 5X as much in 2014 compared to 2011

According to a new report, Chinese-owned land in Jeju has increased more than fivefold in just three years.

In its latest analysis, the National Assembly Research Service says Chinese investors owned 1.4 square kilometers of land in 2011. That total had jumped to 8.3 square kilometers in 2014.

Last year, 50.2 percent of all local land owned by non-Koreans was owned by Chinese.

The report said the influx of Chinese capital was causing real estate speculation and haphazard development in Jeju’s mountainous regions. Its authors suggested implementing stricter criteria for the island’s investment-based permanent residence program and investment promotion zones.

최근 3년 사이 제주지역에서 중국인들이 매입한 토지가 큰 폭으로 증가한 것으로 나타났습니다.

국회입법조사처 보고서에 따르면 중국인들이 매입한 제주지역 토지 면적은 지난 2011년 142만 제곱미터에서 지난해 834만 제곱미터로 5배 이상 급등한 것으로 조사됐습니다.

특히 지난해 전체 외국인 보유 토지 면적 1천 6백만 제곱 미터 가운데 중국인 토지 소유 비율은 50.2 %에 달했습니다.

보고서는중국 자본이 부동산 투기와 중산간 난개발로 이어지고 있다며 부동산 투자이민제와 투자진흥지구 지정 기준을보다 강화해야 한다고 강조했습니다.
