Jeju sees 10,000 new companies annually, while 8,000 fail
60% shutter within a year, 27% viable past 5-year mark

New data shows that an average 10,000 new companies are set up annually in Jeju, though during the same period 8,000 companies shutter their operations.

According to the latest report compiled by the National Statistical Office, the number of newly founded companies in Jeju last year totaled 10,756.

In 2013, 9,560 new companies went into business and 7,964 companies were forced to close. On average, 60 percent of companies on the island went out of business within the first year, 46 percent closed within two years, and 38.1 percent shut down within three years. Data showed that 27 percent stayed in business for more than five years.

As of 2014, there were over 67,000 companies on the island. By industry, wholesale and retail businesses made up the largest proportion with a total count of around 16,000. Some 14,000 companies were in the accommodation and food and beverage businesses… and 10,000 dealt in real estate.


1년에 기업 1만개 개업, 8천개 폐업

제주에서는 한해동안 1만개 정도의 기업이 문을 열고 8천개 가량의 기업이 문을 닫는 것으로 조사됐습니다.

통계청이 발표한 '2014년 기업생명 행정통계 결과'에 따르면 지난해 제주에서 새롭게 경제활동을 시작한 신생기업 수는 1만756개로 집계됐습니다.

지난 2013년에는 9천560개 기업이 문을 열었고, 7천964개 기업이 문을 닫았습니다.

창업해 1년이내 문을 닫는 기업이 60%이며, 2년은 46%, 3년 38.1%, 4년 32% 입니다.
5년 이상 지속되는 기업은 27%에 머물렀습니다.

2014년 현재 제주는 6만7천600여개 기업이 있으며, 업종별로는 도·소매업이 1만6천여개,
숙박·음식점업 1만4천여개, 부동산·임대업 1만여개로 집계됐습니다.
