‘New policies essential to change casino industry’
Provincial government undeterred by opposition from casinos

Despite a backlash from the casino industry, the provincial government has decided to push ahead with its plan to levy fees on profits made by casino brokers and require formal registration to make the brokerage system more transparent.

The decision to do so comes after it was revealed that casinos were paying junket operators extremely high commissions to bring in new customers, which in turn led to what has been deemed “excessive” competition among casinos. This is what officials say has led to legal violations.

The provincial government insists that policy changes are necessary to force changes in the casino industry.

Casino operators held a press conference earlier this week and expressed opposition to the new proposals.
