24/7 crackdown on drunk driving proves effective
Nearly 300 offenders caught in 2 weeks

Police have caught hundreds of people for drunk driving since they launched an around-the-clock crackdown on the practice earlier this month.

The Jeju Police Agency says officers have caught 293 offenders since the crackdown began about two weeks ago, on March 15th.

That’s more than double the 132 people caught during the same period last year, and it works out to an average of 22 drunk drivers caught every day over the past two weeks.

33 drivers were caught during the daytime, and 28 were caught right around dawn. Police say they will continue to crack down on DWI during the day and in the early morning by boosting the number of officers on duty during those hours.

제주지방경찰청은 지난 15일부터 약 2주동안
주·야간 음주 단속을 벌여
모두 293명의 음주운전자를 적발했다고 밝혔습니다.

이는 지난해 같은 기간 132명에 비해
2배 이상 늘어난 수치로 하루 평균 22명 꼴로 적발됐습니다.

특히 대낮에 음주운전을 하다
적발된 경우도 33건에 달했고,
새벽시간에 적발된 경우도 28건이나 됐습니다.

경찰은 인력을 추가로 동원해
새벽과 낮시간대에도 음주운전을 강화하기로 했습니다.
