Jeju Air, Jin Air each fined \600m for safety violations
Penalized for separate incidents in December

Budget carriers Jeju Air and Jin Air have each been slapped with a 600 million won fine for breaching flight safety regulations… the highest financial penalty since a revision to the air safety law.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport also suspended pilots of both airlines for 30 days. The Jeju Air pilot was found to have failed to turn on the air pressure regulator, which forced his plane, carrying about 150 passengers in December, to drop suddenly from an altitude of 18,000 feet to just 8,000 feet. The Jin Air pilot was held responsible for an improperly closed door that caused the flight, carrying 160 passengers, to make an emergency return to its origin. That incident also happened in December.

'안전논란' 제주항공·진에어 6억 과징금

안전논란 물의를 빚은 제주항공과 진에어에게
항공 안전 관련법 개정 이후 사상 최대 규모의 과징금이 부과됐습니다.

국토교통부는 최근 저비용항공사의 비정상운항 사고에 대해
행정처분심의위원회를 열고 각각 과징금 6억원과
조종사 자격정지 30일의 처분을 의결했습니다.

이 같은 과징금은 항공 안전 규정 위반에 대한 과징금이
종전 1천만원에서 최고 6억원으로 개정된 후 최고액입니다.

앞서 제주항공 조종사는 기내 공기압 조절 스위치를 작동하지 않은 채 운항했고,
대한항공 계열 진에어는 출입문의 개폐 상태를 제대로 확인하지 않았고 문제 보고에 대한 조치도 미흡한 것으로 나타났습니다.
