Post-election gift-giving banned
Violators face stiff fines

With the election now over, candidates that ran in the race are banned from giving post-election gifts to voters and other politicians.

The Jeju Election Commission says it is illegal for candidates to give post-election gifts to family members, political party members, and voters in their electoral district. The candidates are also banned from using broadcast or print media for promotions… and from holding post-election gatherings.

They can, however, make speeches in public venues or from vehicles designed for speeches... and hang banners.

The Election Commission says it is a violation of the Public Official Election Act for voters to receive goods or food from candidates after the election. If caught, violators face a fine of up to 50 times the value of the goods received.

제20대 국회의원 선거가 끝난 뒤 선거구민을 대상으로 한 후보자와 정당 관계자 등의
답례행위가 금지됩니다.

제주특별자치도 선거관리위원회는 후보자와 가족 또는 정당의 당직자는 선거일 이후 선거구민에게 금품 또는 향응을 제공하거나 방송 신문 광고, 그리고 당선 축하회나 낙선위로회 등을 할 수 없다고 밝혔습니다.

다만 공개장소에서 연설하거나 대담용 자동차를 이용한 거리인사, 그리고 현수막 게시는 가능하다고 덧붙혔습니다.

선관위는 선거가 끝난 뒤 후보자 등에게 금품이나 음식물을 제공받는 행위는 공직선거법 위반으로 최고 50배의 과태료가 부과될 있다며 유권자들의 주의를 당부했습니다.
