Province, immigration officials outline plans

In non-election news, local authorities are set to intensify their crackdown on the employment of illegal immigrants.

The provincial government and the Jeju Immigration Office will focus on construction companies, restaurants, and fishing villages, where most illegal immigrants tend to work.

The province will also conduct awareness campaigns for Jeju residents two to three times a year, and urge people to report to the police any information they may have on illegal immigrants here.

Last year alone, some 4,300 illegal immigrants were caught in Jeju… which was more than 15 times that of the 280 caught in 2011.

외국인 불법체류와 불법고용에 대한 단속이 강화됩니다.

제주특별자치도와 제주출입국관리사무소는
건설업체나 음식점, 어촌계 등을 대상으로
외국인 불법체류와 고용을 중점 단속합니다.

또 1년에 두 세차례에 걸쳐 외국인 불법 고용방지 집중 홍보기간을 정해
도민들의 제보나 신고를 받는다는 계획입니다.

지난해 제주지역에서 적발된 불법체류자는 4천 300여명으로
지난 2011년의 280명에 비해 15배 이상 늘었습니다.
