Police set up camcorders

Police have started to clamp down on motorists who violate pedestrian crossings.

Using camcorders, Jeju police have started fining violators, especially around crosswalks that have no traffic lights.

Drivers found to have stopped in the middle of pedestrian crossings are fined 60,000 won and get ten points added to their licenses.

In 2015, 40 pedestrians died in traffic accidents in Jeju. Twelve of those deaths, or 30 percent of the total, were caused by cars in pedestrian crossings.

경찰이 오늘부터 횡단보도 차량 정지선 위반 단속에 들어갔습니다.

제주지방경찰청은 신호등이 없는 횡단보도를 중심으로
캠코더를 활용해 보행자가 지나갈때 정지선을 위반하는 차량에 대한 단속을 벌이고 있습니다.

정지선을 위반한 승용차는 범칙금 6만 원과 벌점 10점이
부과됩니다.

지난해 보행자 교통사고 사망자수는 40명으로 이 가운데 30%인 12명이 횡단보도를 건너다 변을 당했습니다.
