Crackdown on illegal sale of apartment ownership rights
Violators face prison, hefty fines

Next week, the provincial government will crack down on the illegal resale of unit ownership rights in the new apartment complex under construction in the Jeju Science Park.

Officials will dispatch a special squad on May 23rd, when contract signing begins, to monitor the people who were granted rights to the units in the new apartment complex.

Critics say the squad will be ineffective because the officials will be wearing easily-recognizable uniforms.

Resale of the rights to the units is banned by law for one year. Violators can receive up to three years in prison or a 30-million-won fine.
