Seogwipo signs land deal with forestry association

The plan to build a memorial hall for the late butterfly specialist and pioneer of Jeju studies… Seok Joo-myung... is taking shape.

The city of Seogwipo sealed a land purchase and exchange deal Thursday with the National Forestry Cooperatives Association.

According to the agreement, the municipal administration will buy land around Jeju National University from the association… and exchange that land with the site of the Seok Joo-myung Research Center, which is owned by JNU.

That research center is in Yeongcheon-dong, Seogwipo. The planned memorial hall will be built alongside it, along with a butterfly eco-park, butterfly plaza, and walking trails.

'석주명 기념관' 토지 확보…건립 탄력

제주학의 선구자이자 나비학자였던
석주명 선생을 기리는 기념관이 건립됩니다.

서귀포시는 오늘 서귀포시청 대강당에서 산림조합중앙회와
상호 토지매각과 교환을 위한 협약을 체결했습니다.

이번 협약으로 서귀포시는
제주대 후문에 접해 있는 산림조합중앙회 토지를 매입한 뒤
제주대 소유의 서귀포시 영천동 석주명 선생
연구소 부지와 교환하기로 했습니다.

이에따라 서귀포시는 영천동 부지에 석주명 기념관을 건립하고
나비생태공원과 나비광장, 산책로 등을 조성해 나갈 계획입니다.
