Proposal finalized for 6th revision of Jeju Special Law
Next step is review by provincial council

Local officials have finalized the proposal for the sixth revision of the Jeju Special Law, which is the legal basis for the island’s semi-autonomous status.

The proposal includes establishing a public enterprise tentatively called the Global Environmental Capital Support Center, transforming sales of public land into long-term leases, and expanding Jeju’s approval rights over industries from the current one, which is the wind energy industry, to 11.

The proposed revision also calls for casinos to pay 20 percent of their earnings in tourism promotion tax. They currently pay ten percent. Finally, it gives the provincial government the right to lift the designations of investment promotion zones if the investments in them fall under 80 percent of the stated target.

Officials will hold a briefing on the 28th to outline all 70 or so revisions it is proposing. If approved by the provincial council, the province will submit it to the central government during the second half of the year.

제주도는 제도개선과제 70여 건에 대해 오는 28일 도민 설명회를 개최한 뒤 다음달 도의회 동의 절차를 거쳐 하반기 정부에 제출할 계획입니다.
