Rainy season to begin June 19
Five days earlier than last year

Weather experts say this year’s rainy season will likely begin on June 19th.

The Korea Meteorological Administration expects a high-pressure system in the North Pacific will cause the seasonal rain front, now south of Jeju, to begin affecting local conditions Sunday.

The start of the monsoon season this year is forecast to be around five days earlier than last year.

The KMA says the location and strength of the rain front may change over time.

19일부터 장마 시작…지난해보다 5일 빨라

올해 장마가 지난해보다 닷새 빠른 오는 19일부터 시작될 전망입니다.

기상청은 제주도 남쪽 먼바다에 위치한 장마전선이
북태평양 고기압의 확장으로 오는 19일부터 제주에 영향을 줄 것으로 예상했습니다.

올해 장마가 시작되는 시기는 평년과 비슷하지만
지난해보다는 닷새 가량 늦은 것입니다.

기상청은 장마전선의 위치와 강도는 유동적이기 때문에
앞으로 발표되는 기상정보에 유의해 줄 것을 당부했습니다.
