Governor proposes revisions to public sewage system bill
Small rural homes will be exempt from hook-up requirement

The provincial government will revise a controversial bill making it compulsory for all homes to be linked to the public sewage system.

At a Friday meeting with public officials, Governor Won Heeryong stressed the need for the bill to be passed, but he also said that certain revisions would be made as requested by residents of rural eup and myeon districts.

It is likely that the bill, once changed, will not apply to small homes in these areas. The installation of individual sewage disposal units will be permitted instead.

The proposal for all homes to use the public sewage system was made as part of the local government’s revised bill on city planning. Residents in rural areas strongly oppose the idea.

수정할 것으로 보입니다.

원희룡 지사는 어제 (17일) 관련부서 공무원들과 회의를 갖고 난개발 방지를 위한 도시계획 조례 개정안은 반드시 추진돼야 하지만 다만 읍면지역 주민들의 요구사항은 일정 부분 수용하겠다며 개정안 일부 수정의 뜻을 시사했습니다.

제주도는 이에따라 읍면지역 소규모 주택은 공공하수관 연결 의무화 규정을 적용받지 않고 개인오수처리 시설을 설치하면 건축을 허용하는 쪽으로 개정안을 수정할 계획입니다.

한편 도시계획 조례 개정안에는 읍면지역 공공하수도 연결을 의무화하도록 했지만 거센 반발 속에 이틀 전 공청회도 파행됐습니다.
