Province plans stone-quarrying operation
Supplies of construction materials forecast to dwindle in coming years

The provincial government wants to begin quarrying stone in order to prepare for a possible shortage of construction materials in the next two to three years.

The province says it decided to make stone-quarrying a public operation in order to guarantee a stable supply of construction materials. The Jeju Province Development Corporation will lead the project.

The selection of stone-quarrying sites and the granting of work permission will all be carried out as public development projects. The private sector will be given the opportunity to participate in the work.

Experts say this is a response to rising demand for construction materials coupled with a cut in the currently permitted amount, which stands at 9.8 million tons in 2016, 5.5 million tons in 2017, and 400,000 tons in 2018.

공영개발방식으로 채취 됩니다.

제주특별자치도는 건설골재의 안정적인 공급을 위해
제주도개발공사를 통한 공영개발방식을 도입하기로 했습니다.

채취장 선정과 인허가 등 골재생산 전 과정을 공영개발로 추진하고
일정부분을 위탁생산함으로써 민간업체가 참여할 수 있는 기회도 열어놨습니다.

건설경기 활황으로 골재수요가 늘 것으로 예상되지만
실제 허가량은 올해 980만톤에서 내년 550만톤, 내후년은 40만톤으로 줄어들어 공영개발방식을 도입하게 됐다고 제주도는 설명하고 있습니다.
