Officials seek to limit rental car speeds
Proposal would block vehicles from surpassing 90 km/h

The provincial government wants to limit all island rental cars to a top speed of 90 kilometers per hour.

Officials have added a clause to that effect to their proposed sixth revision of the Jeju Special Law, which is what gives the island its semi-autonomous status.

Last year alone, 525 traffic accidents involving rentals occurred here. They resulted in 11 deaths and over 900 injuries.

제주에서 운행되는 렌터카 속도를 시속 90㎞ 이하로 제한하는 방안이 추진됩니다.

제주도는 6단계 특별법 개정안 내용에 렌터카 차량의 최고 속도 제한장치설치를 의무화하는 방안을 포함했습니다.

렌터카 속도 제한장치를 설치함으로써 시속 90킬로미터 이상 운행할 수 없도록 하는 구상입니다.

한편 지난해 제주에서 발생한 렌터카 교통사고는 525건으로
11명이 숨지고 900명 이상이 다쳤습니다.
