The first typhoon of the year is heading north now, and Jeju is likely to feel its effects beginning Sunday.
The mid-sized Typhoon Nepartak has a central pressure of 905 hectopascals and a maximum wind speed of 58 meters per second. It is about 760 kilometers south of Okinawa, Japan, heading north at 33 kilometers an hour.
The Korea Meteorological Agency says it will reach Taiwan on Friday and mainland China on Saturday. They forecast it bringing strong winds and heavy rain to Jeju on Sunday and Monday.
The agency is advising local residents to keep up-to-date with the latest news reports for any changes in the forecast.
