By 2025, Jeju will have twice the current area of urbanized land and so-called “regulation-free zones” will be designated in the old downtown area of Jeju City.
As part of the latest revision to the province’s urban development plan, the provincial government will designate another 44.5 square kilometers of local land as planned urban areas. That includes 4.9 square kilometers surrounding the site for the island’s second airport.
Meanwhile, the old city center will become a “regulation-free zone,” clearing the way for the construction of high-rise multi-purpose buildings and cultural facilities in the area.
Officials are accepting public opinion on the proposed revisions through July 29th.
