Eco-friendly crops in decline
Just 3% of island used, lowest in nation

The number of environmentally-friendly crops are on the decline, according to a new report by the National Agricultural Products Quality Management Service.

Figures show 1,195 farms were certified as growing eco-friendly crops in 2015, an eight percent drop from a year earlier.

The amount of crops distributed dropped by an even bigger margin, down 29 percent to 14,800 tons.

The area that used to grow environmentally-friendly crops took up just 3 percent of Jeju’s land last year, the lowest percentage in the nation.

도내 친환경농산물 생산규모가 감소하는 것으로 나타났습니다.

국립농산물품질관리원에 따르면 지난해 도내 친환경농산물 인증 농가는 1천195군데로 전년보다 8% 감소했습니다.

출하량은 1만 4천800여 톤으로 1년 사이 29% 줄어들었습니다.

한편, 도내 친환경농산물 재배면적은 전체 인증면적의 3%로
전국에서 가장 적은 것으로 나타났습니다.
