Minimum wage increases to 6,470 won an hour
Labor ministry sets 7.3% increase for 2017

South Korea's minimum wage for 2017 has been set at 6,470 won per hour, a 7.3 percent -- or 440 won -- increase from this year.

The Ministry of Employment and Labor announced on August 5 that it finalized the minimum wage for next year at 6,470 won per hour.

The new minimum wage translates to 51,760 won a day for those who work an eight hour shift. For those on a 40 hour work week, that comes to 1.35 million won a month.

The labor ministry says the pay raise will affect an estimated 17.4 percent of the nation’s workforce.

오늘(5일) 고시했습니다.

인상률은 7.3%로 올해 최저임금 6천30원보다 440원 올랐습니다.

8시간 기준 일급으로 환산하면 5만 1천760원이며, 주 40시간의 월급으로 계산하면 135만 2천230원입니다.

내년도 최저임금은 전체 임금근로자의 17.4%가 적용받을 것으로 추정됩니다.
