Prices surge during summer season
Housing, food hikes second highest in nation

The rate at which housing and food prices in Jeju increase during the summer is one of the highest in the nation, according to newly released figures.

A report by Statistics Korea shows that last month Jeju’s average price increase was 3.3 percent, some 0.9 percentage points higher than the national average of 2.4 percent.

Jeju came only second after Busan, which topped the list.

By specific food items, the price of raw fish rose 12 percent, followed by pork belly at 6 percent. Both rose more than double the national average.
