More younger students in Jeju schools
Middle, high school numbers to drop in next 5 years

According to a new study by the education office, over the next five years Jeju will see an increase of about 4,000 elementary school students. However, the number of middle and high school students is expected to decrease.

The report, which was released on Monday, said that by 2021 Jeju would have 42,500 elementary students… up more than 4,000 from the current enrollment numbers for the 2017 academic year.

The projected rise in younger students is due to more families from the mainland moving to Jeju. The report said this will likely increase the number of elementary school students per class from the current average of 22.8 to 24.3.

However, the number of middle school students is expected to decline from the current average of 29.6 students per class to 28.7. For high school students, the decrease will be from the current average of 26.7 to 26.2, according to the report.

2. 향후 5년간 초등학생 늘고 중·고생 줄어

향후 5년 동안 제주지역 초등학생 수는 4천여 명 가량 늘어나지만 중.고등학생 수는 감소할 것으로 나타났습니다.

제주도교육청이 오늘(8일) 발표한 2021년도 초,중,고 학생 배치계획에 따르면 오는 2021년도 초등학생 수는 4만2천500여 명으로
2017년도 3만9천100여 명에 비해 4천명 가량 증가하는 것으로 예측됐습니다.

초등학생수 증가는 유입 인구 때문이며, 학급당 학생수도 현재 22.8명에서 24.3명으로 늘어날 전망입니다.

반면 중학생과 고등학생은 점차 감소세를 보여
중학생의 경우 학급당 학생 수가 현재 29.6명에서 28.7명으로
고등학생은 현재 26.7명에서 26.2명으로 전망됐습니다.
