New bridge at Yongmeori to be remodeled
Critics cite damage to natural landscape

A newly installed steel bridge along the Yongmeori Coast is set to be remodeled after critics pointed out a number environmental concerns.

The bridge was installed last June, but city officials have now been advised by the Cultural Properties Committee and engineering experts that the handrails should to be replaced and the bridge be painted a different color.

The province requested consultation on the matter by the Cultural Heritage Administration and is expected to go ahead with the remodeling of the 25-meter-long bridge.

Seogwipo City built the 570 million won structure along Yongmeori Coast, a state-designated natural monument, in June. But it faced criticism for failing to comply with necessary procedures for public water use and for damaging the natural landscape.

문화재위원회와 건축전문가 자문 결과 교량 색상을 바꾸고 교량 손잡이 난간을 철거해야 한다는 의견을 받았습니다.

제주도는 앞으로 문화재청 중앙문화재위원회 자문을 추가로 받은 뒤
리모델링 작업에 들어갈 계획입니다.

서귀포시는 지난 6월, 5억 7천만 원을 투입해
용머리해안에 길이 25미터의 교량을 설치했지만,
공유수면 이용 절차 무시와 경관훼손 지적을 받고 있습니다.
