Growing noise pollution
Construction cited in 89% of cases this year


Noise complaints are rising at a steady pace as Jeju’s construction industry continues to grow and neighborhoods are bombarded from dawn to dusk.

So far this year, more than 700 noise complaints were filed with the provincial government. Of those, 89 percent -- or 635 cases -- were related to construction sites.

The number of complaints made because of noise pollution at construction sites has risen steadily over the years. In 2014, 940 cases were recorded. Last year eleven hundred (1,100) complaints were filed.

The province says it plans to install noise measuring equipment at construction sites and charge fines when legal levels are exceeded.

4. 건설경기 활황…공사장 소음 민원 급증

제주의 건설경기가 활황을 띠면서 공사장 소음 민원도 크게 늘고 있습니다.

제주시에 따르면, 올 들어 지금까지 접수된 생활소음 민원은
모두 712건으로 집계됐는데, 이 가운데 공사장 소음이 635건으로 89%를 차지했습니다.

공사장 소음 민원은 지난 2014년 940여 건에서 지난해 1천 100여 건으로 해마다 늘었습니다.

제주시는 대형 공사현장에 소음 측정기를 설치해 발생하는 소음을 실시간 측정하는 한편, 기준치를 초과한 곳에 대해서는 과태료를 부과할 방참입니다.
