Authorities keeping an eye on Typhoon Namtheun
May indirectly affect local conditions Saturday

Meteorologists are keeping a close watch on Namtheum, the 12th Pacific typhoon of the year, which is currently south of Okinawa, Japan and moving northwest.

The storm is expected to reach southern Kyushu island over the weekend. It may indirectly affect Jeju as its center is expected to reach 370 kilometers east-southeast of Seogwipo on Saturday.

The National Typhoon Center says Namtheum may change course as the day progresses. It is advising residents to keep abreast of the latest weather developments.

제12호 태풍 남테운 발생…이동경로 '관심'

일본 오키나와 해상에서 제 12호 태풍 '남테운'이 발생하면서 이동경로에 관심이 쏠리고 있습니다.
열대저압부에서 시작해 오늘 오전 약한 소형 태풍으로 발달한 남테운은 현재 일본 오키나와 남쪽 280km 부근 해상을 지나 시속 27km의 속도로 동북동진하고 있습니다. 오는 3일에는 서귀포 동남동쪽 370km 부근 해상까지 진출하며 제주에 간접영향을 줄 것으로 보입니다. 국가태풍센터는 아직 태풍의 세력과 이동경로가 유동적인 만큼 앞으로 발표되는 기상정보에 주의를 기울여 줄 것을 당부하고 있습니다.
