Arrest rate of foreign nationals grows fastest in Jeju
Up 140% 2012-2015, national average: 50%

The rate at which non-Koreans are being arrested is growing at the fastest pace in the nation here in Jeju.

Quoting data released by the National Police Agency, National Assembly lawmaker Yoon Jae-ok said that 393 non-Koreans were arrested for crimes in Jeju in 2015. That’s 140 percent higher than the 164 such arrests in 2012.

The running tally this year is approaching 400.

The national average growth in the number of foreigners arrested over the same period was 50 percent.

Ulsan had the second highest growth in the nation at 139 percent, followed by Gyeongbuk at 113 percent.

제주에서 발생하는 외국인 범죄 증가율이 전국에서 가장 가파른 것으로 나타났습니다.

국회 안전행정위원회 윤재옥 의원이 경찰청으로부터 제출받은 국정감사 자료에 따르면 지난해 제주에서의 외국인 범죄자수는 393명으로 지난 2012년 164명에 비해 140%증가한 것으로 분석됐습니다.

올해 역시 지난달까지 400명에 육박하고 있습니다.

이같은 증가율은 전국평균 50%를 훨씬 웃도는 것으로 제주에 이어서는 울산이 139%, 경북 113% 순으로 높았습니다.
