Local civic groups call for resignation of President Park
‘Jeju Haengdong’ organizers plan weekly candlelight vigils


Over one hundred civic groups in Jeju are calling on President Park Geun-hye to resign because of the growing corruption and influence-peddling scandal she is embroiled in with her confidante, (최순실) Choi Soon-sil.


On Thursday, representatives from the groups gathered at Gwandeokjeong Plaza to announce the launch of their campaign seeking Park’s resignation. They are calling the campaign “Jeju Haengdong.”


In a statement, they said President Park had destroyed the constitution and misused government power for personal reasons. They called for her immediate resignation, adding that she also deserved to be criminally punished.


Jeju Haengdong organizers will hold candlelight vigils every Saturday and they say they will continue to spread the word of the campaign both in rural areas and on the internet.

최순실 게이트 파문과 관련해 제주지역 1백3개 시민사회 단체가 참여하는 박근혜 정권 퇴진 제주행동이 출범해 활동에 돌입했습니다.


이들은 오늘 제주시 관덕정 광장에서 공식 출범을 알리며 시국선언문을 발표했습니다.


이들 단체는 박근혜 대통령은 헌법을 파괴하고 사익을 위해 권력을 남용했다며 즉각 퇴진하고 범죄행위에 상응하는 처벌을 받아야 한다고 주장했습니다.


제주행동은 매주 토요일마다 박 대통령 퇴진을 요구하는 촛불집회를 열고 온라인과 읍면지역에서 선전 활동을 이어갈 계획입니다.
