Policy forum on Ora Tourism Complex likely
Provincial government waiting for approval from Seoul


The policy forum meeting requested by civic groups regarding the Ora Tourism Complex is likely to take place.


When asked about it, Governor Won Heeryong said at a press conference on Wednesday that the issue is being reviewed by central government officials.


He explained that the condition for holding policy discussions in other provinces was that the local government be solely responsible for the project in question. In the case of the Ora Tourism Complex, Jeju only had the right to grant approval. That’s why, the governor said, he needed the go-ahead from national officials to proceed.


Won added that even if the national government rejects a policy forum, he believed a discussion of some sort was necessary.


Meanwhile, JCC - the main developer of the Ora Tourism Complex - has submitted a document to the province claiming the complex does not require a policy forum.

제주도내 시민사회단체에서 청구한 오라관광단지 정책토론회가 개최될 전망입니다.


원희룡 제주특별자치도지사는 오늘 오전 가진 기자간담회에서 시민사회단체의 오라관광단지 정책토론회 청구에 대한 입장을 묻는 질문에 현재 청구의 적격문제를 놓고 실무진에서 검토를 진행중이라고 말했습니다.


다른 지방은 정책토론회를 개최하는 조건으로 해당 지방자치단체가 직접 추진하는 사업으로 제한하고 있는데 오라관광단지는 제주도가 인허가권만 갖고 있어 유권해석을 받고 있다고 밝혔습니다.


하지만 부적격 판단이 나더라도 도민 관심이 큰 만큼 설명회나 토론회를 개최할 필요가 있다고 언급했습니다.


한편 오라관광단지 사업주체인 JCC는 정책토론회 대상이 아니라는 법률자문결과를 제주도에 제출했습니다.
