1 in 4 Jeju farmers at least 65 years old
93,000 farmers on island in 2015


The farming population in Jeju is aging, with one in four now at least 65 years old.


In a recent report on the last two decades of the agricultural sector, the Honam Regional Statistics Office shows that nearly 24,000 local farmers were at least 65 last year. That’s 70 percent more than the figure from 1995.


They account for 26 percent of the total farming population, and that’s 16 percentage points higher than in 1995.


This comes as the total number of farmers fell 36 percent over the period to 93,400 last year.

제주지역 농가 4명 중 1명은 65살 이상 고령인것으로 나타났습니다.


호남지방통계청이 발표한 '20년 간 농업 생산의 변화상'에 따르면 지난해 기준으로 65살 이상 농가인구는 2만 3천950명으로 20년 전인 1995년보다 70% 증가했습니다.


65살 이상인 고령화 비율은 26%로 농가 4명 가운데 1명 꼴이며, 지난 1995년에 비해 16%p 늘어났습니다.


한편 지난해 제주지역 농가인구는 9만3천400여 명으로 20년 전보다 36% 감소했습니다.
