Influenza A virus detected weeks earlier than last year
Health authorities emphasize importance of hand hygiene

Local health authorities are sounding the alert after they detected the influenza A virus weeks earlier than they did last year.


Symptoms of this strain of the flu include a high fever and headaches.


The Provincial Institute of Environmental Research discovered two cases of influenza A as part of a study it was working on with two local hospitals to predict respiratory influenza outbreaks.


Last year, this strain of the flu wasn’t found until the third week of December.


The research institute is considering issuing an official early flu warning this year. For now, it is advising everyone to pay special attention to personal hygiene, in particular handwashing.


인플루엔자 바이러스 작년보다 3주 빨리 검출


고열과 두통 등을 유발하는 인플루엔자 바이러스가 지난해보다 3주 더 빨리 검출돼 각별한 주의가 요구됩니다.


제주특별자치도 보건환경연구원이 도내 병원 2곳과 함께 인플루엔자 호흡기 유행 예측사업을 진행한 결과 A형 인플루엔자 바이러스 2건이 검출됐습니다.


지난해의 경우 첫 검출이 12월 셋째주 였던 것에 비해 3주가량 빠른 것입니다.


보건환경연구원은 올해 인플루엔자 주의보 발령이 빨라질 가능성이 높다며 손씻기 등 철저한 개인위생수칙 준수를 당부했습니다.
