Chinese man jailed for assaulting police officer
Incident happened last summer in Jeju City

A Jeju District Court judge has sentenced a Chinese man to four months behind bars and one year of probation for swearing at and assaulting a police officer.


The 60-year-old surnamed “Wu” passed out drunk on a road in Yeon-dong last August. He then was found guilty of verbally and physically assaulting the police officer who was dispatched to deal with him.

Judge Kim Hyun-hee said that an act of violence against the police is a serious of offense, but said that consideration was given to Wu’s admission to the crime and his statements of regret for it.

제주지방법원 형사2단독 김현희 판사는 지난 8월 제주시 연동의 한 도로에서 술에 취해 잠을 자다가 신고를 받고 출동한 경찰관에게 욕설을 하고 폭력을 행사한 혐의로 기소된 중국인인 60살 우 모피고인에게 징역 4월에 집행유예 1년을 선고했습니다.


법원은 경찰관에게 폭력을 휘둘러 죄질이 좋지 않지만 범행사실을 인정하고
반성하는 점을 참작했다고 양형이유를 설명했습니다.
