Expanded efforts to prevent avian influenza outbreak
Three Jeju Olle trails closed

The provincial government will work harder to prevent a local outbreak of avian influenza after KCTV reported on insufficient quarantines around migratory bird habitats.

Following Thursday discussions with representatives from the Jeju Olle Foundation, provincial officials decided to close Jeju Olle Route 2, which goes from Gwangchigi Beach to Onpyeong Port; Route 13, which begins at Yongsu Port and ends at the Jeoji Village Center; and Route 21, which stretches from the Haenyeo Museum to Jongdal. All of those trails are near area frequented by the birds.

In addition, authorities will put up new ‘off-limits” banners around the bird habitats and more closely monitor the feces of the birds for signs of bird flu virus.
