New natural monument in Jeju
Upper group of lava tubes in Geomun Oreum designated #552

National authorities have designated the upper group of lava tubes in (거문오름) Geomun Oreum as a natural monument.

The designation by the Cultural Heritage Administration includes the (웃산전) Utsanjeon, Bukoreum, and Daerim Tubes in Gujwa-eup, Deokcheon-ri, Jeju City. The group is now Natural Monument Number 552.

Researchers say the area is beautiful and academically important. The ecosystem and a wide range of cave formations remain relatively untouched in the upper group of tubes.

거문오름 상류동굴군, 천연기념물 지정

제주 거문오름 용암동굴계 상류동굴군이 국가지정문화재 천연기념물로 지정됐습니다.

문화재청은 제주시 구좌읍 덕천리 일대에 발달한 웃산전굴과 북오름굴, 대림굴을 아우르는 거문오름 용암동굴계 상류동굴군을 천연기념물 제552호로 지정했습니다.

상류동굴군은 웅장한 규모와 다양한 동굴생성물, 동굴생태계가 유지되고 있어
학술적, 경관적 가치가 높은 것으로 평가받고 있습니다.
