350,000+ registered vehicles in Jeju last year
24,000 new registrations in 2016, but growth slowing

More than 350,000 cars are now registered on the island, but the rate at which new vehicles are being added to the total has started to slow.

According to the provincial government, the tally at the end of last year was about 351,000. That’s about 24,000 more than a year earlier, which works out to roughly 67 new registrations daily.

Monthly, the number of registrations peaked at 3,400 in April. That total fell in the second half of the year, dropping to a low of just 470 in October.

Provincial officials say that decrease is due to a new parking proof requirement that is being rolled out this year, changes to the paid public parking lot system, and other modifications to the general transportation system.

제주 등록차량 35만대 돌파…증가세는 둔화

제주도에 등록된 차량이 35만대를 돌파한 가운데 차량 증가세를 주춤하고 있습니다.

제주특별자치도에 따르면 지난해 도내 등록 차량은 35만 1천여 대로 2015년말의 32만 5천대 보다 2만 4천여대 늘었습니다.

이같은 등록대수는 하루 평균 67대에 이르는 것입니다.

월별 등록대수는 지난해 4월 3천 400 여대로 정점을 찍은 뒤 10월에 470여대까지 감소하며 하반기들어 증가세가 크게 둔화됐습니다.

제주도는 올해부터 확대 시행되는 차고지 증명제와 공영주차장 유료화 등의 교통 제도 때문으로 분석하고 있습니다.
