Tangible results for new Tourism Police Squad
Group of officers dedicated to problems in tourism industry

The Jeju Municipal Police Bureau is claiming success in the launch last February of a group of officers dedicated to problems in the tourism industry.

Over the last roughly year, Tourism Police have uncovered 380 violations through crackdowns at major tourist attractions, restaurants, and accommodations.

That’s more than twice the 170 violations police caught in 2015, before the tourism police group was formed.

They focused on basic offenses, such as jaywalking, particularly around areas like Yeon-dong and Dongmun-ro, where foreign tourists tend to congregate. The squad also busted efficiency apartment owners in Yeon-dong, Jeju City in December, for operating illegal accommodations.

지난해 2월 출범한 제주도자치경찰단 관광경찰이 가시적인 효과를 거두고 있습니다.

제주특별자치도 관광경찰은 지난 1년간 주요관광지와 음식점, 숙박업소를 중심으로
관광질서 저해사범에 대한 단속을 벌여 모두 380건을 적발했습니다.

이같은 단속실적은 관광경찰 출범 이전인 지난 2015년의 170건과 비교해 두 배 이상 급증한 것입니다.

주요내용을 보면 연동과 동문로 등 외국인 밀집지역을 중심으로 무단횡단과 같은 기초질서 단속은 물론 지난해 12월에는 제주시 연동 오피스텔을 임대해 불법 숙박업자를 형사입건하기도 했습니다.
