Provincial education office refutes claims of civic groups

The Provincial Office of Education denies claims by civic groups that it failed to perform appropriate on-site inspections in the process of approving the foundation of an American international school on the island.

Education officials on Tuesday held a press conference and refuted the four alleged problems the organizations had raised regarding Saint Johnsbury Academy Jeju.

They stressed that the Anti-Corruption & Civil Rights Commission’s analysis of the situation, which is a key basis of the civic groups’ allegations, has not even been released yet.

They also said they had confirmed with a law firm that there were no legal issues in the contract for the foundation of the school.

제주도교육청이 아무런 문제가 없다며 해명에 나섰습니다.

제주도교육청은 오늘(10일) 기자회견을 갖고 시민단체가 제기한 4가지 의혹에 대해 조목 조목 반박하며 사실과 다르다고 주장했습니다.

교육당국은 특히 시민단체가 각종 의혹 주장의 근거로 내세우는 국민권익위원회의 조사 결과는 현재까지 나오지도 않았다고 강조했습니다. 또 법무 법인을 통해 해당 국제학교 설립을 위한 계약 내용에 법적 문제가 없음을 확인했다고 덧붙였습니다.
