Police turn focus to food origin labeling in lead-up to holiday
Inspections at retailers, traditional markets, restaurants

Jeju Municipal Police are looking closer for origin labeling violations on holiday food items in the two-week lead-up to the lunar new year.

They are focusing on foods used in ancestral rites and for presents, like beef, pork, yellow corvina, and red tilefish. Inspectors are looking over the items at both major retailers and traditional markets.

They are also surveying restaurants frequented by tourists to ensure the establishments have the country of origin properly displayed for all of their ingredients.

Municipal police uncovered 165 Food Sanitation Law violations over the last year, including cases of origin mislabeling.


설 앞두고 원산지 표시 위반 특별단속

제주특별자치도 자치경찰단이 설 명절을 앞두고 내일(11일)부터 보름간 원산지 표시 위반행위를 중점 단속합니다.

단속은 대형마트와 재래시장에서 소고기와 돼지고기, 조기, 옥돔 등 제수용품과 선물용품을 중심으로 이뤄집니다.

또 관광객이 많이 찾는 관광식당에서의 원산지 표시 행위도 단속할 예정입니다.

자치경찰단은 지난한해동안 원산지 허위표시를 비롯한 식품위생법 위반사례로 165건을 적발한 바 있습니다.
