Province spending \65.7b on water, sewage facilities
Growing population and tourist industry boost demand

Local officials will expand water and sewage infrastructure to meet the sharp increase in demand caused by a growing population and tourist industry.

The provincial government has earmarked 65.7 billion won, 32 percent more than last year, for a number of projects. The money will be spent on developing water sources, boosting the water flow rate, expanding supply facilities, and pipeline modifications.

In particular, the government aims to develop 31 sources of groundwater in the Jocheon and Seongsan region. The estimated 31,000 tons of water they will generate will help meet demand, which skyrockets the summer.

The province will also boost the capacity of water desalination facilities in Gapado and Marado from 225 to 400 tons per day.

물 수요 급증하면서 상수도 기반시설 확충

유입인구와 관광객 증가로 물 수요가 급증하면서 각종 상수도 기반시설이 확충됩니다.

제주특별자치도는 올해 사업비 657억원을 투입해 상수원 개발과 유수율 제고사업,
공급시설 확충, 관로정비 사업을 추진합니다.

이같은 예산규모는 지난해보다 32% 증가한 것입니다.

특히 여름철 수돗물 사용량 증가에 따라 조천과 성산 지역에 지하수 31개공에 3만 1천톤의 상수원을 개발합니다.

또 가파도와 마라도 지역의 해수담수화시설 용량을 하루 225톤에서 400톤으로 증설하는 사업을 추진합니다.
