Closing of Jeju Air’s reservation center ‘impossible’
Province responds to controversial plan

The provincial government maintains it is impossible for Jeju Air to move ahead with its controversial plan to shutter its reservation center on the island.

Local officials demanded on Thursday that the airline keep the center open.

They argued that Jeju Air was launched in the promise of providing an air carrier for islanders. Accordingly, they said, the reservation center must remain here.

Jeju Air officials maintain it is too difficult to staff the local center, so they decided to combine its operations with the reservation center in Seoul. The company advised the 50 people working at the Jeju center to resign.

제주항공 제주 예약 센터 폐쇄 논란에 대해 제주도가 센터 폐쇄 불가 입장을 밝혔습니다.

제주도는 오늘(8일) 제주항공 측에 제주 예약 센터 폐쇄는 있을 수 없는 일이라며
현행대로 유지해 줄 것을 요청했습니다.

제주도는 제주항공 출범 당시 보장해왔던 도민 항공사라는 기업 이미지를 위해서라도 예약센터는 기존처럼 유지돼야 한다고 강조했습니다.

한편 제주항공은 도내 인력 충원이 어렵다는 이유로 제주예약센터를 서울에서 통합 운영하기로 하고 직원 50명에게 권고사직을 통보했습니다.
