Fewer Chinese visit over Chinese New Year holidays
7% fewer than last year

Compared to last year, fewer Chinese visited the island during the Chinese New Year’s Day holidays.

The Jeju branch of the Bank of Korea puts this year’s tally at some 48,000 - 7% fewer.

Airplane arrivals from China tumbled 24 percent to about 31,400, while cruise ship arrivals spiked by 66%.

Analysts gave a couple of reasons for the decline. They said many Chinese prefered to visit Seoul this time because they were traveling on their own, rather than as part of a large group. They also cited China’s opposition to Korea’s decision to deploy the THAAD missile defense system.

중국 춘절연휴기간에 제주를 찾은 중국인 관광객이 감소했습니다.

한국은행 제주본부에 따르면 이번 춘절연휴 제주를 찾은 중국인 관광객은
4만 8천여 명으로 지난해 같은기간 보다 7% 감소했습니다.

크루즈 관광객이 66% 증가한 반면 항공편을 통한 관광객 수는 3만 1천4백여 명으로 24% 감소했습니다.

이같은 현상에 대해 한국은행은 중국인 개별 관광객 비중이 늘면서 수도권으로 몰리고 있는데다 사드배치 결정에 따른 한한령의 영향 때문으로 분석했습니다.
