New working-level April Third Incident committee
15-member group has 2-year term

Local officials have created a new working-level committee to uncover the truth surrounding the April Third Incident and restore the honor of its victims.

The province appointed 15 members to the committee. This is the ninth such group to be formed, and it has a term of two years.

The committee will work to expand financial support for victims, create a permanent system through which victims and their relatives can be officially recognized, and prepare for the 70th anniversary of the incident.

The creation of the group wasn’t all smooth sailing - members disagreed with each other over the election of the executive members of the committee.

제주4.3사건 진상규명과 희생자 명예회복을 위한 실무위원회가 새롭게 구성됐습니다.

제주도는 앞으로 2년 동안 활동할 4.3 실무위원회 제9기 실무위원 15명을 위촉했습니다.

실무위원회는 4.3 70주년 기념사업 준비를 비롯해 4.3 희생자와 유족 신고 상설화,
생활지원금 지원 확대 등을 지속적으로 추진할 계획입니다.

하지만 위원회 임원 선출을 놓고 위원들끼리 의견이 엇갈려 마찰을 빚기도 했습니다.
