In related news, as part of measures to preserve Jeju’s haenyeo culture, Jeju City will make some improvements to the Hansupul Haenyeo School.

The city plans to spend about 170 million won on training programs for new divers as well as an improved access road to the school and other basic facilities.

Officials will also work to improve promotions and operations by hiring professionals and administrative staff to work at the school.

Between 2008 and last year, 490 people graduated from the Hansupul Haenyeo School. Since then, though, only ten new students have enrolled.

한수풀 해녀학교 운영 시스템 개선

제주시가 제주해녀문화 보전과 전승 대책의 일환으로 전문해녀 양성을 강화하기 위해 한수풀 해녀학교 운영 시스템을 개선합니다.

이를 위해 사업비 1억 7천여 만원을 투자해 전문해녀 육성 프로그램을 신설하고
교육 진입로 등 기반시설을 확충할 계획입니다.

또 전문인력과 사무인력을 채용해 체계적인 홍보와 운영 시스템을 구축합니다.

한수풀 해녀학교는 지난 2008년부터 지난해까지 490명이 수료했지만 신규 해녀 가입은 10명으로 저조했습니다.
