Cruise ship dockings on track to plunge 81% this year

Jeju Ferry Passenger Terminal is losing money quickly after Beijing put the brakes on cruises to Korea in response to Seoul’s decision to deploy the THAAD missile defense system.

525 cruise ships stops had been scheduled this year. If the current trend continues, local officials say the annual total will plummet 81 percent to just 97.

That would result in a 2.6 billion won operating deficit ? 2.4 billion won in lost terminal usage fees and the rest in lost parking revenue.

The provincial government has asked the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries for financial support three times. The ministry has not yet responded to those requests.

제주도는 중국정부의 보복 이후 해양수산부에 3차례에 걸쳐 국제여객터미널 운영지원금을 요청했으나 현재까지 이렇다할 답변은 없는 상황입니다.
