Jeju becomes testing site for US college entrance exam
Officials hope to entice Chinese students to take ACT here

Provincial officials on Friday signed an MOU with ACT, an American company that produces a college admissions test with the same name.

China does not allow admissions tests for foreign universities within its borders, so the 30,000 Chinese who take such exams each year must travel elsewhere to do so.

Jeju hopes to entice some of them here. The ACT is given five times annually at locations around the world. The earliest test here in Jeju will be in June.

Provincial officials will also ink an MOU with a company called ATA, which has the copyright on ACT prep tests. They plan to design packages for test takers that include a prep test, the real ACT, college admissions presentations, and Jeju tours.

미국의 최대 대학입학시험이 제주에서도 치러집니다.

제주특별자치도는 내일(21일) 오후 미국의 최대 대학입학시험기관인 ACT와 이같은 내용의 양해각서를 체결합니다.

특히 중국의 경우 자국내에서 외국 대학입학시험을 허용하고 있지 않기 때문에 연간 3만명 정도가 해외에서 시험을 치르고 있는 만큼 상당부분을 제주로 흡수할 수 있을 것으로 예상됩니다.

ACT는 연간 5차례에 걸쳐 전 세계에서 동시에 실시되며 제주의 경우 빠르면 오는 6월부터 시작될 전망입니다.

제주도는 또 ACT 모의고사의 판권을 갖고 있는 ATA와도 양해각서를 체결해 '모의고사와 ACT 시험, 유학설명회, 제주관광을 묶은 관광상품을 개발하기로 했습니다.
