Statue for civilians killed by Korean soldiers in Vietnam War
‘Vietnam Pieta’ in Gangjeong at St. Francis Peace Center

A statue has been erected in the village of Gangjeong to honor the women and children killed by Korean soldiers during the Vietnam war.

The Hanbe Peace Foundation will officially unveil the statue, called the “Vietnam Pieta” next Wednesday at the Saint Francis Peace Center in Gangjeong.

The foundation has also decided to build a memorial area within the center for locals who have suffered because of the ongoing conflicts surrounding the April 3rd Incident and the construction of the naval base in Gangjeong.

베트남전쟁 당시 한국군의 민간인 학살로 희생된 여성과 죽어간 아기들의 넋을 위로하는 '베트남 피에타' 동상이 서귀포시 강정마을에 설치됩니다.

재단법인 한베평화재단은 오는 26일 강정마을내 성프란치스코 평화센터에서 피에타 동상 제막식을 갖는다고 밝혔습니다.

이와 함께 센터내에 4·3과 제주해군기지로 갈등을 겪은 제주도민을 위한 추모 공간도 조성하기로 했습니다.
