Jeju becomes test venue for US college entrance exam
First ACT to be in June

Provincial officials inked a deal Friday to turn Jeju into a test venue for an American college admissions exam, and the first test will be in June.

The ACT is roughly equivalent to the College Scholastic Ability Test given in Korea. About 59 percent of people heading to an American university take the exam each year, which works out to about 1.9 million annual test takers.

The exam previously had been offered at 26 locations in Korea, and about 6,000 students had taken it in the country. Beginning last year, administrators cut the number of venues to just one, however, in response to cheating.

With Jeju now a confirmed testing center, provincial officials aim to develop tour packages for Chinese students, who have to leave their country to take the exam.

6월부터 제주에서 미국 대입시험 ACT

미국의 최대 대학입학시험인 ACT가 이르면 오는 6월부터 제주에서도 치러집니다.

제주도는 오늘(21일) ACT와 이 같은 내용을 담은 양해각서를 체결했습니다.

ACT는 우리나라의 대입수능 시험 성격으로, 미국 내 연간 대학 지원자의 59%인 192만명이 응시하고 있습니다.

우리나라에서 그동안 26군데 시험센터에서 6천 여명이 응시했지만 각종 부정행위가 발생하면서 지난해부터 수도권 1곳에서만 치르고 있습니다.

제주도는 중국에서 연간 만5천여 명이 ACT 시험에 응시하기 위해 해외를 찾는 것을 고려해 제주관광을 묶은 상품을 개발하기로 했습니다.
