National Skills Competition underway
First time for Jeju to host event

Jeju is hosting the National Skills Competition for the first time ever, and the event is underway.

19-hundred people from across the country are competing over eight days. The Ministry of Employment and Labor, the provincial government, and the Jeju Provincial Office of Education are hosting the competition.

67 people from Jeju are competing. They represent Seogwipo Industry Science High School, Jeju High School, Jeju Tourism University, and other local learning institutions.

Every gold medalist will receive 12 million won. The cash prize for silver is 8 million and for bronze it is 4 million won.

The top two finishers in each event will also be added to the Korean national team, which will take part in the World Skills Competition. Kazan, Russia will host that in 2019.

전국기능대회 다음주 제주서 개막

전국기능대회가 제주에서 처음으로 다음주에 개막합니다.

고용노동부와 제주특별자치도, 도교육청이 주최하는 이번 대회는 오는 4일 개회식을 시작으로 8일간 전국에서 1천 900여명의 선수가 참여해 기량을 겨루게 됩니다.

특히 제주에서는 한림공고를 비롯해 서귀포산업과학고등학교와 제주고등학교, 제주관광대학교 등에서 67명이 출전해 전국의 선수들과 우승을 놓고 승부를 벌이게 됩니다.

이번 대회 입상자에게는 금메달 1천 200만원, 은메달 800만원, 동메달 400만원이 지급되며 직종별 2위까지는 2019년 러시아 카잔에서 개최되는 국제기능올림픽대회에 국가대표로 참가하게 됩니다.
