International arrivals down 60%
Overall tourist tally falls 6.7%

Far fewer non-Koreans are visiting the island this year.

The province puts the international arrivals count at 970,000 ? a full 60 percent less than last year.

Chinese account for the vast majority of foreign travelers to Jeju. Their numbers have plummeted in response to Seoul’s decision to deploy the THAAD anti-missile system, which Beijing opposes. Over two million Chinese had come to the island by this point last year. This year? Just over 620,000.

Domestic arrivals are up nine percent this year, but that hasn’t been enough to make up for the drop in international tourists. The overall tourist tally is off 6.7 percent ? from 10.6 million last year to 9.9 million this year.

외국인 관광객 작년 대비 60% 줄어

제주를 찾는 외국인 관광객이 크게 줄었습니다.

제주특별자치도에 따르면 올들어 지금까지 제주를 찾은 외국인 관광객은 97만여 명으로 지난해 214만여 명에 비해 60% 감소했습니다.

특히 사드여파로 중국인 관광객이 지난해 215만여 명에서 올해 62만 여 명으로 150만 명이나 줄었습니다.

내국인 관광객은 전년 대비 9% 증가했지만 외국인 관광객 급감으로
전체 관광객수는 지난해 1천 60만 명에서 올해 990만 명으로 6.7% 감소했습니다.
