‘Chaos’ as central bus lanes open
Collisions between buses, cars on first day of new system

Local authorities began testing central bus lanes October 20th, and the new system caused a number of problems.

The lanes next to the median strip on the 1.4-kilometer stretch between Ara Elementary School and Jeju Fire Station in Ido-2-dong are reserved for buses.

Not everyone was aware of or followed the new rules, and that led to collisions between cars and buses.

Central bus lanes will start being used on another 1.3-kilometer stretch of road, from the fire station to Gwangyang Intersection, next month.

대중교통 중앙차로제 시범 운영…곳곳 '혼란'

오늘(20일)부터 대중교통 중앙차로제가 시범 운영에 들어간 가운데 곳곳에서 혼란이 잇따랐습니다.

제주도는 오늘(20일) 새벽 0시를 기해 제주시 아라초등학교 사거리에서 이도2동 제주소방서 사거리까지 1.4km 구간에 버스 중앙차로제를 시범운영에 들어갔습니다.

하지만 일부 버스들이 일반 승용차와 뒤엉키며 접촉사고가 발생하는 등 혼란이 잇따랐습니다.

제주도는 제주소방서 사거리에서 광양 사거리까지 1.3km 구간은 다음달 안에 개통할 계획입니다.
