‘More national funding needed for “lava seawater” businesses’
Local officials press case with visiting National Assembly members

National Assembly members visited the Jeju Lava Seawater Complex in Gujwa-eup Friday to inspect operations there.

Members of the assembly’s small and medium venture business committee inspected the facility and discussed ways to boost business related to the seawater that is naturally filtered through Jeju’s volcanic bedrock.

The provincial government has asked for more national funding for the sector. It says it needs 6.1 billion won, but that Seoul has only earmarked 2.9 billion.

The national lawmakers also heard suggestions on some of the other main issues facing the island. Regarding the proposed burying of power lines, they said they plan to first do it on Udo Island or around Seongsan Sunrise Peak. They say it would be financially unrealistic to attempt to do the work island-wide from the start.

국회 산업통상위 제주 방문…"용암해수 예산 확충"

국회 산업통상자원중소벤처기업위원회가 오늘(27일) 제주를 찾아 용암해수단지 운영 상황 등을 점검했습니다.

위원들은 오늘 오전 구좌읍 용암해수단지를 방문해 시설을 둘러보고 용암해수 사업 활성화 방안을 논의하고 제주도의 현안 건의사항 등을 청취했습니다.

제주도는 용암해수 산업시설 예산으로 내년도 국비 61억원을 필요로 하지만
29억원만 반영됐다며 나머지 예산에 대한 반영을 요청했습니다.

송배전선로 지중화사업 계획에 대해 제주도는 모든 지역을 한꺼번에 추진하기에는 무리라며 예산이 지원되면 우도나 성산일출봉 일대 부터 단계적으로 추진하겠다고 밝혔습니다.
